The mini-fellowship in Medical Student Education in Geriatrics provides an opportunity for you or a member of your faculty to attend an innovative 5-day program designed to help physician faculty enhance their skills in curriculum design and development in geriatric medicine for medical students. The mini-fellowship takes attendees out of their normal routine to meet with expert faculty in a wonderful learning atmosphere that will promote their professional growth as clinician educators.

Special features include:

  • Small group workshops on curriculum development
  • Development of a teaching plan for your home institution
  • Individual mentoring sessions with Duke's Geriatrics Faculty discussing issues specific to teaching medical students
  • Observation of teachers in action at our annual Medical Student Aging Symposium.

The Medical Student Aging Symposium is part of an annual intersession program that provides medical students an introduction to geriatric medicine and issues surrounding the care of elderly patients. Through various sessions and activities, students learn about geriatric assessment, visit a long-term care facility, and perform assessments on volunteer seniors in the community. Scholars are matched with a student small group for the week and have the opportunity to experience the curriculum from the learner's point of view.

Future dates for this mini-fellowship program are yet to be determined. To receive an application email our program coordinator at geri.education@mc.duke.edu or call 919-660-7577.
